Turtle Craft Set Two (3)

This turtle craft idea has two purposes in my opinion. Summer is near, but some summer days are very hot and exhausting. If you want to stay indoors and do something entertaining with the kids, you can try this paper plate turtle craft. This also helps to recycle paper plates.

Instructions:

Step 1: Paper Turtle Pattern

From the link above click and download the PDF template. Use the templates to trace the patterns for the turtle on different shades of green craft papers. Carefully use scissors to cut out the turtle’s pattern from the craft papers.

Glue the pieces of the turtle’s shells together.

Then, glue the turtle’s legs on the bottom part of the shell.

Now, glue the turtle’s head on the front side of the turtle’s shell.

Step 2: Finish making The Turtle Craft

Glue the turtle’s tail on the back part of the turtle’s shell

Glue the green square paper cutouts over the turtle’s shell

Glue a googly eye on the turtle’s head.

Take a thin black marker pen and draw a smiley face on the turtle. Then, use a pink marker pen to draw a blush on the turtle’s face.

Step 3: Prepare The Background

Cut out the backgrounds (the sand, and the sky) using cardstock paper. Use your paper plate to draw the diameter of the paper plate on a blank piece of paper. Then, use the paper to measure and cut out the backgrounds for your paper plate.

Glue the pieces together and place them inside the paper plate. You can use wavey patterned scissors to cut out the sand.

Use green and brown craft papers to cut out the coconut tree leaves and the tree’s trunk.

Glue the leaves of the trees with the tree’s trunks.

Step 4: Decorate The Paper Plate

Now that we have all our decorations made let’s finish this craft. Place the two trees on the two sides of the paper plate. Then, glue the sun on the sky right in the center. Place your turtle inside the paper plate, and if you think your turtle is lonely use the PDF templates to make a crab craft with the turtle.

Before we finish today’s craft how would you like to know a few interesting facts about turtles? I have searched the internet and collected some mind-blowing facts you kids might like. I have linked the sources with the facts.

5 Interesting Facts About Turtles:

  1. First things first, turtles and tortoises are very different. As a kid, I didn’t know that. Turtles have flippers and tortoises have feet. So judging by that what we made is actually a tortoise.
  2. Generally, turtles are omnivores, which means they eat both meat and plants. Green sea turtles are herbivores, they primarily eat many types of plants.
  3. Turtles are reptiles. That means they are cold-blooded animals.
  4. The leatherback turtles are one of the largest kinds of turtles. An adult leatherback turtle weighs about 700 kilograms. On the other hand, Chersobius signatus is one of the smallest turtles, they weigh about 95-160 grams only.
